relish

- Leadership Philosophy -

What does it mean to relish something? Part of developing a leadership mindset has been practicing the continual art of reflection oftentimes amidst emotion, distraction and conflict. What do we use to stay centered?

Because language is important, the word 'relish' came up for me as cherishing the moments no matter where we are in them: appreciating the small wins, the growing pains and bringing acceptance 'to the table.' Relish is the overarching concept to acknowledging the 'and/both' concept.

I hope to bring energy, optimism and creativity to organizational change. I want to lift people up in their positions, steward food justice through receptivity and speak from the heart.

- Personal Vision Statement -

'Clear Eyes,
Full Hearts,
-Can't Lose'

So much content has affected my 'ways of being' over the past two years. 'Clear eyes, full hearts - can't lose' is the most succinct way to paraphrase my leadership philosophy. It reminds us of the importance of acting with your mind and your heart; unifying them.  I reflect on this concept as I move forward in my leadership journey and what it means to lead whole-heartedly.

Below you'll find the values that guide my leadership philosophy, the art I've created inspired by readings from this program that now guide my leadership philosophy.

- I created this space of generative images and language to further illustrate my leadership philosophy -

ADAPT, ADJUST, ABSORB, ACCEPT, UNLEARN

  • building a future self

  • willingness to be silent

  • relies on community

  • open to the larger context of belonging

  • act with regard to the needs of others

and/both is the concept of holding the tension of opposites, bringing awareness to the grey area of ethics, and the realization that very few situations have one clear answer

music

Music has always carried a powerful voice in my life. This was an element we shared in the three-day intensive associated with this course.

I've shared a few songs that I lean on to get me through to the next level and a couple of songs I shared with colleagues in the intensive. Enjoy!

A Tribe Called Quest - Electric Relaxation (Official HD Video)
Tavares - Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel
Beyonce - COZY ( OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO)
Françoise Hardy - Le Temps de l'Amour
Hell You Talmbout - David Byrne's American Utopia
Kali Uchis - After The Storm ft. Tyler, The Creator, Bootsy Collins

podcasts

Podcasts are a great way to receive and share information. They're often accessible and full of great resources. It's been surprising to me, once I heard a name, read an article or learned about a theory how there was often something published as a deeper dive.

Here are a few I really enjoy:

choice and habits

I recently read Emotional Resilience, a book that highlighted how discomfort aids in our ability to establish the next equilibrium.

The author spoke to the importance of shaping your environment in order to support a different choice. And owning a realistic imagination about what it takes to achieve a goal.

Much of my leadership philosophy involves encouraging myself to embrace the next level regardless of whether I feel the 'imposter syndrome,' or if I fail to meet a habit in a day. It's the intention that matters. The choice to intention, in fact, and that those 'small wins' will build on themselves to form solid rituals.
